Overview

The Citizens Summit Reserve® World Elite Mastercard® is a category rewards card from Citizens Bank, running on the Mastercard network. The Citizens Summit Reserve® World Elite Mastercard® earns up to 3x on dining, groceries, and streaming, so it pays you the most exactly where you already spend. It carries a $295 annual fee, so the real question is whether its rewards, credits, and perks clear that bar for the way you spend.

It lands in the mid tier: a modest annual fee in exchange for stronger earn rates and a meaningful welcome offer. The right call depends on whether your spending and the perks clear that fee each year.

Best for: people who spend heavily on dining and groceries and will earn back the $295 fee through those bonus categories and the card's perks.
Think twice if: your spending does not line up with its bonus categories, or if you would rather not think about where you swipe at all.

Rewards: how it earns

Where the Citizens Summit Reserve® World Elite Mastercard® earns its rewards is its bonus categories: 3x on dining (about $90 a year on the $3,000 a typical household spends there), 3x on groceries (about $180 a year on the $6,000 a typical household spends there), and 3x on streaming (about $18 a year on the $600 a typical household spends there). Across a full year of average household spending, the card returns roughly $581 in rewards before any welcome bonus, so the more your spending overlaps those categories, the better it does.

Pros and cons

Pros
  • 3x on dining
  • 3x on groceries
  • 3x on streaming
  • Annual statement credits offset the cost
Cons
  • $295 annual fee to earn back every year
  • Generally needs good to excellent credit to qualify

The welcome bonus

This card does not run a traditional welcome bonus, so its value comes entirely from ongoing rewards and perks.

Is it worth the annual fee?

The $295 fee lives or dies on the credits. You get up to $120 a year in travel credits and up to $120 in Lyft credits, which is $240 back, plus Priority Pass lounge access, so if you ride Lyft and travel at all, your real cost drops to around $55 and the card is easy to keep. That is the same logic that makes the Venture X worth holding. But be honest about the Lyft credit in particular, because if you do not use rideshare it is dead value, and without it you are paying real money for a 3% card. Use the credits and it is a keeper; ignore them and it is a year-one card.

First-year value vs ongoing value

Est. ongoing value / yr*$526

There is no lump-sum welcome bonus, so first-year and ongoing value are about the same, roughly $526 a year on typical spending after the fee. What you see is what you get from day one.

*First-year value counts the welcome bonus, estimated rewards, and annual credits, minus the annual fee; ongoing value is a typical year after. Every point at a flat 1 cent, on average spending.
